“We Were Saying Rubbish During The Campaign” – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says his party didn’t know what they were getting into before making so much promises to Nigerians, and as such made life difficult for themselves with the high expectations from Nigerians because of the long list of promises made. He said his party
identified only three major items…Security,Economy and Corruption.Speaking on Monday when he hosted state house correspondents at the presidential villa in Abuja,Buhari said he and his cabinet members have been doing their best to deliver the change which the All Progressives Congress (APC)promised Nigerians during the electioneering campaign.

The president described his ministers as hardworking, saying they toil day and night to ensure that his administration succeeds.

“One of the men I pity is Lai Mohammed.Everyday he is on TV explaining our performance or lack of it,” he said.

“The ministers sit down day and night to work.Some of them have literarily lost weight because they were sleeping less and eating less (while working on the budget). They were working on every kobo to be spent.

“We recently just found out that we are poor because we don’t have anything to fall back to.This is the condition we found ourselves and this change mantra had to go through hell up till yesterday.

“And for you to talk to whoever came to visit us throughout that year, I wonder how each of your diaries would be, because people were expecting this change mantra in their own way.

“How do you define change? Luckily our party identified three major items, security, economy and corruption.”

The president spoke on why he reduced the number of ministries from 42 to 24. He also revealed that some of the permanent secretaries
were disengaged because of lack of
commitment.

Buhari added that there is a possibility of the economy recovering in the last quarter of the
year.

“When we came there were 42 ministries we cut it to 24. We had to do it on our own because we found out that government could not continue with 42 ministers and the paraphernalia of office so we cut it down to 24,” he said.

“I underrated the influence of the PDP for 16 years watching from outside. The experience of the staff, their commitment and zeal is different from what it is now compared to when I was in government. Sixteen years of development in the life of a developing nation is a long time.

“Most of the permanent secretaries were sent out because it was time for some of them to go and for others for one thing or the other. Because were not part of those 16 years this is where we found ourselves and this is no joke.
“We had to cut down half the number of permanent secretaries and then do some cross postings. The permanent secretaries that were there for the past five, seven, 15 years the only thing that they know is how things were done in the previous years. Whatever we did in the campaign, in fact we were saying rubbish and that made it very difficult for us.

“Things were even more difficult during the budget which you all know about. For somebody like me, for the first time I heard what is called padding.

“I think we will recover by the fourth quarter of the year, what padding means especially for ministers who had implement what padding contains. There were very serious developments which I never knew about.”

Pastor Anita Ebhodaghe has refuted claims that she has reconciled with the General Overseer of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, and returned to the church.

Ebhodaghe, in a statement by her
solicitors, Attwaters Jameson Hill, on February 8, had confirmed the dissolution of the clergywoman’s marriage with Oyakhilome, wherein she announced that she would drop Oyahkilome from her name henceforth.

Several blogs ignited an online frenzy last week with reports that the former couple had settled their differences out of court and that they had gotten back together.

But Ebhodaghe, in a statement on her blog on Thursday, denied allegations that she had made up with the televangelist.

EFCC Recovers N900 Million From Jonathan’s Kinsman

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered N900m from Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa, a former Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

A reliable source at the EFCC told our correspondent on Sunday that the money was found in one of Dudafa’s accounts, which was
immediately frozen.

The source said, “Dudafa told us that he had no money; so, we began to investigate his accounts. We then found N900m that was hidden in one of his accounts through the connivance of his account officer.

“Dudafa initially denied owning the account but when he was confronted with evidence, he had no choice but to admit. Some people,who had paid money into the account based on Dudafa’s instructions, even came forward to say that the account indeed belonged to Dudafa. The N900m will be used as evidence against him in court.”

Dudafa, who was a close aide to and a kinsman of Jonathan, was arrested on April 18 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in
Lagos.

The former presidential aide, alongside Jonathan’s ex Aide-de-Camp, Col. Ojogbane Adegbe, was accused of giving N10bn to delegates at the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party in December 2014, in which Jonathan was the only candidate.

The money was allegedly diverted by the Office of the National Security Adviser from a Signature Bonus Account in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The N10bn is believed to have been diverted from oil receipts as follows: $5m (November 14, 2014); $47m(November 27, 2014); €4m(December 3, 2014) and €1.6m(December 24,2014).

While Adegbe was arrested but later released,Dudafa was said to have fled to either Dubai or a Caribbean country where he stayed for several
months.

However, impeccable sources at the EFCC told our correspondent that Dudafa was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services
upon arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.In his Statement of Witness/Accused Person,which had been filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, embattled former NSA,Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), had said the N10bn was given to Ojogbane and Dudafa.

Dasuki had said, “That I am aware in November, I cannot remember the exact date, my office requested the CBN to exchange N10bn from the
account of the Office of the National Security Adviser domiciled in CBN. The money was exchanged and $47m and some Euros, which I cannot remember the exact amount, were delivered at my residence.

“The money was for delegates that attended the nomination convention for the PDP presidential nomination. The money was paid and sent to
Hon. Dudafa (SSAP, Household) and ADC(C-I-C)for distribution on the instruction of the President.”

Adams Oshiomhole Increases Minimum Wage From N18, 000 to N25,000

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State on Sunday announced a new minimum wage of N25,000 with effect from May 1, 2016 for workers.Oshiomhole who was addressing a rally organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC),to mark this year’s Workers’ Day at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin,announced the increment from the present N18, 000 minimum.

“With effect from today, the new minimum wage for government workers shall now be N25,000, and the new minimum wage will cut
across board”,the former trade union leader said.

The workers who before the announcement had expressed dissatisfaction over their poor welfare jumped for joy and happily marched in appreciation of the new minimum wage as announced by the Governor.

Earlier in their respective speeches, the Chairman of NLC, Comrade Emma Ademokun and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Ohue Marshal, had expressed concern over a number of problems affecting Nigerians.

Some of them are the persistent scarcity of petroleum product, epileptic power supply and illegal electricity tariff increase.

They also mentioned spiralling increase in cost of living, insecurity, kidnapping, rampaging herdsmen, Boko Haram, irregular payment of
salaries resulting in accumulation of arrears, growing rate of unemployment with the attendant social vices.

The Workers’ Day rally was however marred with low turn out of workers.
The new wage minimum wage comes at a time no fewer than 27 states in Nigeria are finding it difficult to pay workers.
