46-year-old singer Gwen Stefani has said she would be “blessed” to have a gay son after being asked how she would react should one of her children come out to her when they are older.
Stefani has three sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo, with her former husband Gavin Rossdale who she announced she was divorcing last year after 13-years of marriage.
Gavin used to be gay and he is still quite open about his bisexuality. So the fact that she was married to a man who was into men and women, makes it easier for her to be accepting of gay people.
Speaking to Pride Source, Stefani said her son’s sexualities are not important, and what is important is that they are healthy and happy.
“I would be blessed with a gay son. You know that I would feel blessed about that.
I just want my boys to be happy and
healthy, and I just ask God to guide me every day to be a good mother because it’s not an easy job.
“I always ask my gay friends, ‘OK, so what was it like when you were a little boy?’Because I do know that it’s gotta be difficult to be the alternative, to not be the mainstream, or to be different, if you want to call it that. I feel like it’s less and less [like that] these days, and it’s hard for me to understand because it doesn’t seem different or weird or anything anymore because it just seems so normal to me.”
Gwen also slammed the idea of fixed
gender by dismissing critics who trolled her for allowing her son wear nail polish.
She feels there's nothing wrong with a boy trying to be a girl or a girl trying to be a boy.
“As long as my boys are protected and happy and I’m spending quality time with them, whether it’s doing sports or doing nails, it really doesn’t matter.”
Hmmmmmm.
