How A Teenage Girl Sold Her Baby For N500,000
The Ondo State Police Command at the weekend narrated how a teenager, Tessy Obianua allegedly sold her baby girl for the sum of N500,000 to a couple in Onitsha, Anambra state.
It was gathered that, Tessy, a 17 year-old girl fell was tricked by one Mrs. Chibuzor Okoye, a known child trafficker.
According to the police , it was Okoye, that convinced Tessy to sell the baby to the couple, Mr. and Mrs Sunday Kalu, who were desperately looking for a baby.
The state commissioner of police,Mrs. Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, while parading the suspects said, five persons were involved in the case.
Ibifuro-Harrison said it was Tessy’s father, Mr. Henry Obianu, who alerted the police.
‘‘Mr.Obianu who claimed his daughter, Tessy ran away with her pregnancy January last year, said she later re-appeared again without the baby or pregnancy in May,’’ the CP said.
Police investigation also revealed that Tessy was lured to Onitsha by her father’s neighbour,simply identified as Mr. Jude Azuka.
The CP explained that his men arrested Okoye who specializes in child trafficking later.
“It was Okoye, who sold the said baby girl to the couple in Onitsha at the sum of N500,000.
“She claimed to have given Jude the sum of N200,000 out of which Jude claimed to have bought clothes and shoes to Tessy and also gave her N30,000.’’
“Mrs. Chibuzor thereafter forced Tessy, to sign an undertaking that she would never come back for the baby.”
