So Sad: Twin Boys, 2 years,Drowned In Fish Pond At Family Home As Parents Thought They Were Playing Inside

TWIN boys aged two have drowned after they fell into a fish pond as their "parents thought they were playing inside".Distraught parents Sarah Aitken, 32, and Mervyn
Scott, 30, found Shaun and Rhys lifeless in the water in Dalgety Bay, Fife.

Paramedics rushed the toddlers to the hospital but they could not be saved.

The boys were taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy where they were pronounced dead.It is believed the couple had only recently started renting the property, where a previous owner had run a business rearing koi carp.

But last night news of the tragedy left neighbours in Dalgety Bay, Fife, in a state of shock.Local MSP Alex Rowley described the incident as
"every parent's worst nightmare".

A family friend said: "The parents thought the
boys were playing safely inside. It's a nightmare."How any parent would be able to cope with such a loss is hard to comprehend."

It is thought the parents only started renting the property recently.
A woman, who did not wish to be named, said:“There was lots of activity outside the house first thing in the morning."There were three or four marked police cars, three vans, two unmarked cars and two ambulances.“The ambulances left without their sirens but
they had their lights on.
“I knew there were toddlers in the house and I was told there were two fish ponds. It’s horrible— just awful.”
