A woman who sat on the ledge of a
building contemplating suicide was blown to her death by a gust of wind after she changed her mind and attempted to return to safety.
The 21-year-old victim reportedly
threatened to throw herself off the office building in Changle City of Fuzhou, capital of East China’s Fujian Province after an emotional fight with her boyfriend left her
suicidal.
Stunned crowds gathered below as she dangled her legs over the edge of the six-storey building after climbing to the roof.
Witnesses say several people tried to talk her down while she sat perched on the ledge. After having a change of heart, the young woman stood up to walk away from the side of the building.
But a strong gust of wind caused her to stumble backwards and she plunged to her death, witnesses say. It is unclear whether her boyfriend was with her on the rooftop at the time of the incident.
Arriving paramedics pronounced the
woman dead at the scene. Local police in Changle are now investigating the case.
