A man who was adopted at the age of five says he fell in love with his birth mother after he tracked her down. Shane Burke ,19, from Manchester, has described how he was ‘confused’ about his feelings of
attraction towards Rose Bestall who he met through Facebook.
He believes he may have been suffering from genetic sexual attraction – a condition in which someone has a sexual attraction to a relative if they first meet as adults.
His mother Rose had been forced to give him up for adoption when she gave birth to him at the age of 15. They were reunited after 14 years - but after a few weeks, he confessed his love for her, creating a ‘massive dilemma’.
Mrs Bestall told the People: " I knew
Shane’s feelings were completely
inappropriate, but I had searched for him for so long and I didn’t want to push him away again ."
She said that their relationship could never be anything more than a mother/son relationship and the love was unconditional but as a family member rather than anything else.
She told the newspaper that she’d given her son up for adoption at the
age of five. He’d tried to contact Rose but her account was private.
Eventually she contacted him and could tell he was her son thanks to his resemblance to his father.
Shane told the paper: " Now I love Rose because she is my mum, nothing more.I call her Rose as we’re all still adjusting, but maybe in time I’ll call her mum."
